Bobbi Brown Weightless Skin Foundation Review

[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] One of the weird things (out of many, many) that happens in mid-life is that you start to want less foundation. I can't work out if it's because we are just so bored, bored, bored of high maintenance foundations that need endless blending and feel like fresh plasterwork on our skin or whether we've just 'grown out' of it, but it seems to happen to a lot of us. I'm all for you doing you - wearing the make-up you want, regardless of finish or weight because there aren't any rules for mid-lifers (despite what anyone tells you) but my personal, predictable preference is for less. I'm the sheep following the flock but you do not have to be!

I was sent three shades by the brand to try the texture of the new Bobbi Brown Weightless Skin Foundation and my instinctive pick is N-042 Beige.

They arrived in a (re-usable) box with the sentence, 'I see ____ in my skin' and I couldn't resist playing along with the provided pen to write 'life'. Actually, this was a useful exercise because I had to really think about it - I'm so used to seeing my own face on camera and on social media that a reminder to put some thought into my own face was good.

In the swatches above N 042 Beige is at the bottom followed by N 050 Natural and then N 030 Sand. It's £43 per bottle.

It's certainly very light textured - you can barely feel it on your skin so you have all the movement and flexibility of bare skin but with a more polished look. If you are used to heavy or mid-weights you will find this light - your skin will show through albeit with a degree of 'perfecting'. So, you need to be happy with your skin underneath in the first place.

There's an oil-control element to this which means a 'real skin' finish rather than a dewy or matte finish so if you like a bit of glow, this isn't for you. I mean, you can add your glow afterwards so it's no problem. I'm wearing this over my (Malin + Goetz) SPF and they work very well together but the foundation has a built in SPF15 although I'm sceptical because it will depend on how much you use - best to add your own first I think. I like this base for being just a little of what you fancy - it's a walk in the park kind of a base rather than night at the opera and if you need something for day to day, I'd recommend.
