Friday Treat: 5 Key Fashion Pieces from M&S

[unpaid/affiliate] You know what they say about the early bird? I'm already looking at items that are perfection for autumn and there are hardly any left (a beautiful denim jacket all gone but for a size 6) so despite the fact that we are not even in September, if you want them, don't wait.

I have a very small M&S near me so managed to take some pictures of a few things that caught my eye, including this foiled bronze denim skirt that is just delicious and just waiting for some Uniqlo Heat-Tech tights, ankle boots and a big squidgy jumper over the top. It's HERE and comes in blue foil as well but I prefer the bronze - if you're doing it, do it 100%. I was about to recommend cashmere tights til I remembered the pair my mum bought me and how I nearly died of heat on the tube.

If you don't see yourself in a little skirt, fear not - there are maxi foiled denim skirts HERE, £45, in gold and silver with very sexy back pockets (wear with a white shirt, black leather jacket), and wide leg metallic jeans HERE (short, regular and long in gold and silver), £45. They're just going to sell out completely because of being so utterly, agelessly, fabulous. I mean, you'd wear them in Paris, right?

Next up is this loose sweatshirt. Scoop neck sweatshirts are as rare as dodos but so much more flattering than the grab-your-throat necklines. I like loose clothes that I can move in rather than anything too snug so this is right up my street. Also, I am just going to say that mushroomy-brown is having its fashion moment now - it's a particular kind of brown that probably has its own name on the Farrow & Ball paint chart (wheelbarrow chestnut?) but M&S are calling Rich Amber. You can resurrect your white jeans for this one or if you're early enough, refrain from putting away your wide-leg white linen trousers. Otherwise, any old jeans will do - just add long chains. Kicking myself for not buying a pair of these tea-dyed (assuming that's exactly as it sounds, otherwise I'm clueless) black fine cord patch pocket flares (I've omitted the commas because it looks too clumsy!) while I was literally right in front of them (on order!) which will be the pair of trousers that you default into every time the weather looks vaguely bleak. They've got a bit of stretch for a more comfortable autumn and look the right side of hippy. You can wear these (in four colours) with anything - floaty blouses, jumpers, shirt and a tank - and they'll look exactly fine. They're £39.50 HERE. They come in short, regular and long.

M&S hands down make the best value cashmere hoodies - I've got a grey and black (not M&S) and I live in them in colder times. Personally, I think a zip up hoodie is more flexible - wear it as a jacket or a cardi under a coat with the hood out for extra chic don'tcare-ness - not least because metallic t-shirts have a presence this season and you can slide your zip down so everyone knows you didn't miss that trend! This one comes in XS, S, M, L and XL and I usually advise sizing up because cashmere sizing can be skimpy, plus you don't know what you're going to want to wear under it - a jumper, maybe - so more room is best. Colour-wise, there's black, grey or khaki and they're £129 HERE. I bought my daughter one earlier in the year and she loves it.

When I'm speaking about what you might wear under your cash hoodie, this sparkly t-shirt is exactly what I'm talking about - ditto under shirts or long cardis. It's not sequin but a sparkly cotton that will glint and glimmer beautifully under knit textures. You can also wear it under your scoop neck brown sweatshirt but make sure a strap shows.
