[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] (There’s an intro at the bottom of this post for new readers so please scroll down.) Facial SPFs are a hot topic right now - I've just had a little rant on Instagram about how we are all being hoodwinked into thinking we need to pay £££ for facial SPFs when in reality, we don't. Your facial SPF only needs to do one thing - offer a sun protection factor that protects your skin. Most of us have a fairly thorough skin care routine - all the extras your skin needs tend to be covered off in that so the bells and whistles that come with expensive SPFs are nice extras but most likely not needed. However, despite wanting to be in a dark room with twenty fans and nothing at all on my poor, hot skin, I've tested the Garnier Vitamin C Daily UV Lightening Fluid SPF50. What you pay for SPF doesn't indicate how good the SPF is - the price is a) what brands think they can get away with and b) a few extras.
I like it well enough - it's doing the job in a light feeling way with a smidge of a tint (and I mean a smidge). Initially, my skin looked too shiny but that settled very quickly. I'm guessing it has 'glow' in the title because of the key ingredient, Vitamin C, which, to refer to the opening paragraph, is nice to have but not an essential, especially if you already have it covered off. It's £13 which feels very reasonable and is currently on offer for £8.66 HERE.
The thing that puts make up fans in a twizzle is the reapplication of SPF. So, you start your morning getting readiness with a layer of SPF50. Over that, you apply your makeup. However, most SPFs (read the small print) advise that you reapply every couple of hours or at least, 'frequently'. So, does all the make up come off and you start again? How does this work in the office, at a garden party? Or, you use a high SPF foundation, but again, read the small print - you need to reapply. Or do you? It really depends upon what you're doing and where you are - for example, if you're outdoors all day in the sun, you need to reapply at the same rate you would if you were on the beach sunbathing. If you've been in front of spreadsheets all day under artificial light, you probably don't. Anyway, the Brightening Over Make-Up mist gets you out of a hole somewhat. It's not for the beach or beach like conditions - it's for incidental sun - but the big benefit here is that you don't need to carve off your beautiful summer make up, you just generously spritz this over everything and you get an extra SPF boost. It's also on offer at £8.66 HERE.
NB: An intro for new readers: BritishBeautyBlogger is a daily serving of beauty news - the canape rather than the full meal. I have over 20 years experience as a beauty journalist and my reviews are honest, to the point and written for the consumer, not the brand. At the start of every review you will see [unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] - this declares whether I have been paid to write about the product, where it came from (whether I bought it or whether a brand sent it), whether or not the post contains an affiliate link (where I will receive a small portion of the price of the product - and I mean small!) and finally the word ad is a legal requirement for anything I write that means I receive money from an affiliate link or have been sent for review. Paid subscribers receive two extra posts a week across many different topics and occasional product discounts that aren’t available to non-paying. Either way, welcome and thank you so, so much for subscribing.
I liked that Garnier SPF Vit C Glow fluid, but there's a version without the 'glow' element which is better (imo). It's just a thin white fluid that dries down better and looks less shiny. Same SPF, same Vitamin C.
Thanks for your review of the Levoit tower fan. I ordered one and it was delivered this afternoon, which was brilliant timing. I think it's excellent 👌
