Jo Malone London Care Collection Review

When In Rome...

[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] I’ve got so many products to write about at the moment so yesterday I had a big testing evening that covered face, hair and body and I’m going to start with the Jo Malone Care Collection which I only received on Friday. It’s bad news for the old credit cards because it’s as lovely as you’d hope it would be. I have the Enrich Shower Cream (used it as a body wash because I am not a shower fan) and the Revitalise Body Gel-Cream. There are seven pieces in the collection, including Restore Body Treatment Scrub and Enrich Body Balm, both of which my not-summer-ready body could do with.

This brand can’t shovel out any old stuff on a saturated market so they’ve landed on a Roman bath theme and used neurosensorial research to bolster their claims of wellness. Roman baths were traditionally places of rest and relaxation – you’d move through a series of rooms from the Tepidarium to the Caldarium to the Fridgidarium (sorry, I’d skip that) and come out supremely clean and toga-tastic, ready for a day of hanging out at the forum and feasting. The essential oils and ingredients chosen for the products were symbolic to the Romans. The Romans had a vanity tool for everything, from ear scoops (yes, I would) to blunt blades (strigils) from sweeping away the remaining film of body oil to singeing away body hair with hot walnuts. I think you’ll agree, there’s a lot to work with if you use a Roman theme.

You can see, as soon as the pearly, concentrated cream leaves the tube that it’s ‘luxury’ and the application confirms the quality. You don’t need very much, particularly if you’re using a sponge – this liquid lathers beautifully. I loved the fragrance – warm, sensual and not skimping on intensity – with notes of rose, chamomile and cedarwood, although I swear I can smell amber in there. It feels like the treat that it is (£25 HERE). The Revitalise Body Gel-Cream follows the course of the chambers in the Roman baths by being fresh and light – after being cocooned in warm water and the shower cream froth, you now get to be woken up with a citrus burst of lemon peel and verbena with a twist of bay laurel. The formula uses hyaluronic acid and glycerine and is light enough to sink in quickly, leaving a gentle trail of fragrance and moisture. It’s £34 HERE.

There’s a tie in with the AIRE Ancient Baths in London beginning in April that uses two of the Care Collection’s key products in a new treatment. I’ve been invited to the AIRE baths many times – it’s quite a popular PR venue for meetings and I can’t say no hard enough. I have zero desire to appear in my one-piece to listen to a PR pitch while awkwardly trying to pretend that this isn’t the worst hour of my life. I’m actually cringing while typing this.
