Kerasilk Finishing Cream

Flat out great find...

[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] Trust me, I am as low maintenance as it’s possible to be with my hair. It’s naturally curly, so I blow dry it straight or lightly wavy and I really don’t like having anything in it such as hair spray or gel. Looks great on the day but overnight, while my curls try to escape their straightened confines, anything extra that I’ve put in it seems to lock those kinks in stone so I wake up looking like the proverbial hedge backwards. Same with sea water which is why I do not let my head anywhere near a salty wave if I can possibly help it.

But, in the interests of testing products, I used the Kerasilk Finishing Cream, £20 HERE, but only because I used a Kerasilk mask not so long ago and absolutely loved it so I felt I was in trusted territory. Firstly, I used the Repairing Shampoo and Conditioner because now my hair is bleached, it certainly needs some attention in that direction. While it’s hard to have a proper view after one use, I didn’t love it. For some reason, it didn’t give me the softness I was looking for and rinsing was quite an effort. I live in a hard water area, and conditioner rinsing is an issue but some brands still manage to be easily rinseable and others not so much. I preferred the shampoo to the conditioner and will finish both bottles, so we’re not talking terrible, but somehow, it just felt like effort.

However, I’m a convert, immediately, to Kerasilk Finishing Cream – a formula that uses biomimetic silk and shea oil. What a delight! Any post blow dry ‘fluff’ was banished, giving me something close to the same finish as I’d expect at the hairdressers. You just use a tiny amount – I applied using a penny sized portion in the palm of my hand, warming it by rubbing both hands together and then running over my hair. After that, I brushed through with a wide bristled brush (by Daniel Galvin Jnr - one of my most prized beauty possessions and even more so now that it’s no longer available) and that was it. My hair moved with the kind of swish that generally, I cannot accomplish.

My most useful hair tool after the sainted brush is the Dyson Coanda attachment that I use every single day to smooth down overnight chaos – expensive but since it’s used every morning more than worth the spend, speaking personally. Dyson don’t sell the attachment separately which is annoying (it's literally never in stock and I've never known it to be] – you have to buy the dryer (which I did) and it comes as a tool - the only tool I ever use so the rest are wasted. At £330 HERE, it's a considered purchase but I won't be parted from mine.

While we are on the topic of hair, I swear by silk pillowcases. I used to sleep flat on my front with no pillow but it just gives me back ache now so I sleep with a V pillow over a silk pillow. Up til now, I’ve just had to use a silk pillow case to go over half the V pillow but I’ve finally found a silk V pillow cover [£53 HERE] and am waiting with impatience for it to arrive. I sleep hot – my legs are always sticking out to keep my feet cool and I have a fan on always other than the bleakest winter months. The silk pillowcases stop the hair sweat which means I don’t start my day like Medusa. I love Sonal's at This Is Silk - she has the best HERE because they're thick but still super soft but you can shop around. While I remember, the other benefit to the Kerasilk Finishing Cream is that it has some iridescence to it – if you have dark hair, that will bring extra light, but on blonde hair (more on this in another post) you probably won’t see any shine boost.
