Kora Organics Active Algae Calming Cleansing Balm Review

[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] I feel lucky this week that so far, everything I’ve reviewed has been so lovely. One of my secret pleasures is getting a new cleansing balm – that first carve through the surface is just so satisfying! Notably, this product comes with its own spatula which I always find helpful – balms are delicious when you’re massaging them around your face but nobody needs that under their fingernails.

Kora Organics was founded by Miranda Kerr who you may know as an Australian model. These days she more likely to be found parenting and promoting a healthy lifestyle (I know, but she’s nice, I promise – one of the very few celebrities ever to send me a personal thank you message on Instagram for featuring one of her products) as well as creating products for Kora Organics since 2009.

The clue for Kora’s USP is in the name – organics – and so far, I’ve found this brand to be reliably good across the board, but the new Active Algae Calming Cleansing Balm is particularly so. I really enjoyed using it – it’s got enough heft in the formula to make you feel that it is capable of working its way through whatever is lurking on your face but not so solid that you feel it may as well be an oil, the poorer in pleasure sister of the balm.

I can’t take too much notice of active algae other than I’m assuming that’s what gives it such a beautiful green shade (and greens in beauty can go terribly wrong) and made me think of the sea. I don’t truly know how active algae can actually be although I know they can be lipid rich (it’s lipids that gives this formula such an immediate skin compatibility) but I appreciate the inclusion of pineapple enzymes which give a light peel. The longer you keep it on your skin, the more effect you will find – personally, I found it so lovely to massage over my face I kept at it for quite some time and then felt saintly. You’ll also find squalane and jojoba in the mix – again, skin loving ingredients. It does contain fragrance in the form of essential oils but it’s light and pleasant – a very clean scent, appropriately.

The best thing is that Miranda has included a 30g version for £22 as a try before you fully commit. This feels like an accessible price for the quality of the product and I wish more brands would do it rather than expecting a blind and expensive leap of faith.
