As you said, I can’t see how only 9 shade options is going to cover the whole range of skin tones. Fair looks too light for me, and Light looks like it may turn orange. Plus there doesn’t appear to be any mention of undertones. I’m a strictly neutral undertone, and anything warm or cool, and my skin will either pull yellow or orange 😳! As I’m housebound I couldn’t get to Boots to swatch the colours anyway, and I wouldn’t want to trust buying online. I must admit though, whichever colour you used, it does look good on you. And I like your description of it being a gentle matte.

The best neutral bases are True Match (L'Oreal Paris) in my view. The numbers used here are confusing - I can't see what they relate to. That said, I think if you can find a good match it's a beautiful base but its not worth taking a chance on unless you are absolutely sure.
