There is always the option to take a break from things too, I am taking a break from Instagram at the moment as the algorithm keeps showing me reels and photos of animal cruelty and people who have either had their dogs put to sleep or are just about to. I must have inadvertently clicked on something for it to do this so I’m just staying away for the minute until I feel strong enough to curate it, I have a 16 year old dog so anything like that is too emotional for me right now, also too much AI. I will take a couple of days out then go back and sort it. It is in our power to do that. ❤️💐
I hear you - I saw some shocking stuff on TikTok and I deleted the app. You need to get someone else to just trawl through your feed clicking 'Show less like this' or report them and you won't see them. I'm sorry about your dog - it's so sad when they get old.
Yes Jane, that’s what I’m going to do, I’ll ask my husband to go through and do that for me. Sometimes I think it’s cathartic to just step back, take a breath and carry on. There so much about social media (well Instagram and Substack) that I do enjoy but it’s up to us to use it wisely. Thankfully I have never gone near TikTok!😂
good good! I agree with you - but get your lovely hubby to clean up your feed so that you can enjoy it again and keep on top of it - and you're right... personal responsibility is all :-)
Oh my, Jane .. your true story 🙄 as if. People love living in silos, don't they? It's smacks of elitism and privilege. I only saw the commotion on here yesterday when I was prepping today's post and though oh here the reels come. I don't mind them. I was thinking oh maybe I can repurpose some of my Insta reels now 🤣 I'd do that. I am only now on here, LinkedIn and still Insta { for the time being}. Everything else went last year and I deleted TT years ago as I had a feeling where that was going 🗑️
A very touchy topic that I commend you for tackling Jane. While I am not a fan of beauty influencers who often lack knowledge & are on social media in order to promote themselves, we are all different & respond & address different needs of different people. There is not one beauty product for everyone & there is not one voice/blogger/influencer/journalist that hits the mark for everyone. So maybe it’s time to value variety on offer & choose whoever you want to follow, read or take advice from. As to quality of writing the same thing applies - the more people express themselves through written/typed word, the better - in that respect the breadth is actually impressive I hope you’ll agree (unlike the gentleman in the audience who irked you- and I am with you on this 🙌🏼
Thanks Galina - I mean it’s not compulsory to engage with any of it … if you go in a shop you’re not compelled to buy all the clothes in it 😂 I just like to see more generosity of spirit and and an acknowledgement that Substack is future proofing itself so we can all continue to enjoy it in whatever format that might be.
I agree about generosity of spirit and accepting individuality of expression of others. May Substack continue to encourage and promote a different attitude for all of the creators, writers and thinkers - may we all thrive individually and together as community

I just don't like literary snobbery - everyone just needs to calm the heck down and let people communicate in the way they see fit or best.
