Oh this is excellent, thank you. I get the kajals a lot on my Insta feed and I've been curious about them, particularly one that's a sort of khaki. That sparkly, soft black is good, too - Bobbi Brown used to do something similar in their gel liner pots, which you *could* wing with a brush, but I stopped buying them because they always dried out. Can't wing now anyway, my face has changed!
I love the VB kajal/khol pencils. For the lids I do a line near my upper lashes the leave for a full minute then smudge into the lashes with an angled brush. One eye at a time as after the minute it sets quite fast. I don’t use the smudged on the end as I find it tends to rub it off
Thankyou for this. Like another said I see it all the time on my IG feed and was just about to order but didn’t, as many reviews were terrible with too soft, smearing and breakage etc. Your description is really great and they would suit me for my use most times but that said, they are a bit restricted in their usage and I can understand customers being disappointed it was not a versatile liner.
My kajal arrived yesterday so first time today having a play briefly at 6am. They do go on very well and highly pigmented. Interested to see staying power and also run down speed. Thanks for the tips too.
You've found my favourite subject!! If you want true translucency it's Bobbi Brown Extra Lip Tint in Bare Cherry (slightly pinkish) or Lanolips Red Apple. If you can take a bit more colour, Coco Rouge Balm in In Love or Glossier in Fete. You might like Korean brand Tocobo in Tangerine Red or Boots No7 in Glam - high pigment but if you apply lightly it's fine. If you need it really sheer you're better off looking for a gloss applied over a clear balm, the best translucent red gloss is Glossier in Red . Hope that gives you some options :-)

I’ve never been able to wing these - just too soft.
Looking fabulous and super-helpful deep dive! 👀 🤩 XX
Thank you Jenni :-)

I agree re the smudger - much better to use a brush.

Thanks for the great tip to keep them in the fridge! Mine keep scratching my eyelids.
Keep them really well sharpened - they wear down very quickly!
You’re a star Jane. Thanks for this. I got my 2nd liner today & understand now that it’s for the inner rim (which is where I went wrong 😑)
Great! Start getting smouldery!
🤣🤪I’ll try!

I’m so impressed with a 6am smoky eye!!
Are there any translucent red balms or lipsticks that you would recommend?
